I have A2 level and I want to take vocational English lessons, is that possible?

For a course in professional English /legal, business, IT, etc./ we recommend level B1 and above. At lower levels, we recommend improving your general English so that you have something to build on in your professional studies.

How long will it take me to level up?

Progression to a higher level is individual, but the standard path for a student is one language level per school year /2 semesters/ in group lessons, i.e. 64 x 60 min. lessons.

Why is it necessary to test yourself?

Based on your test result, we can place you in a course according to your current level. The test is a prerequisite for inclusion in group instruction.

I'm a complete beginner, do I need to take a test?

If you are a complete beginner and have no background in English, there is no need to take the test. You will be automatically enrolled in the course at level A1.

Can you assign me a native speaker for my lessons?

For levels higher than B1+ we automatically assign a foreign tutor, for lower levels it is individual.

How does clock recall work?

If necessary, the lesson can be cancelled no later than 12.00. the previous working day. All the rules for the organisation of the lessons are given to the students at the beginning of the course.

Can students studying in a group substitute an individual lesson?

No Absences in group instruction cannot be made up individually. A refund of the lesson is only possible if the lesson is cancelled by the whole group.

Teachers’ Day

Teachers’ Day is a one-day conference for teachers of English, held every year in March to mark Teachers’ Day. The aim of the conference is to share experiences and knowledge and also to give colleagues a chance to meet, try English coaching or practice yoga.

What is the format of your teacher training courses?

We offer the widest range of intensive week-long courses for teachers, which are held in our Bratislava office. The course includes a total of 25x60min lessons and we offer a variety of focuses. In addition to the face-to-face courses, you also have the option of enrolling in online formats, which have a lower lesson frequency and run for approximately one school year.

What is the minimum level of English I need to have to pass the course?

The minimum required level of our teacher training courses is at least B1 to B2, each course has a specified minimum required level in its description. You can also test your level via our online testing service TrackTest.

Can I apply for Erasmus+ mobility through your courses?

If you are a teacher from abroad and you have funds available under an approved project, of course you do. For teachers working in Slovakia, Erasmus+ mobility requires looking for courses abroad.

Do you have an accompanying programme for teachers attending a course through Erasmus+?

Yes, in each of our intensive one-week courses, we also offer an accompanying programme to create as pleasant an environment as possible for the teachers attending our course.

I don't fit any of the available course dates that caught my eye. Is it possible to open some other dates for the group on request?

Yes, if there are more people interested in a given term, we can also open a “turnkey” course.

How can I get to Bratislava by air?

Either by direct flight or to Vienna to Schwechat, from where you can take a comfortable bus to the centre of Bratislava. The journey costs a few euros and takes less than an hour.

I need to prove my language level with a certificate, which one should I choose?

The choice of certificate depends on the reason and purpose for which you need it. If it is required by a higher education institution abroad, you need to check which certificate and what level of achievement is accepted. If you do not have a particular certificate selected, we recommend that you improve your level in the General English course and take the Tracktest – the extended version with speaking at the end of the course. The certificate you receive from the Tracktest will serve to certify your level of English.

Do the exams for the certificates take place directly at your language centre?

No, you need to register with the certification provider for the exams for each certificate /Cambridge, IELTS, etc./. In our language centre we offer a Certificate Preparation Course, which means that we will prepare you for the exam and specific types of tasks /including mock tests, writing and correcting essays, etc./.

For example, I have a B1 level. I want to do a C1 level certificate. can I sign up for the preparation?

We do not recommend this procedure. It is preferable to first move up in the General English course to the level at which you want to do the certificate. Save your exam preparation for the final stage.

Conversational English lessons are ideal if you already have a basic level of grammar and vocabulary, but lack confidence when speaking. They help to overcome the fear of speaking, loosen the tongue and automate the use of English in practice.

Why and when to take General English classes?

General English is the ideal choice for anyone who wants to build a solid language foundation and gradually gain confidence in everyday communication. These classes develop all four basic language skills – reading, listening, speaking and writing – in equal measure. Students build a solid foundation on which they can build later – for example, when moving on to vocational English or preparing for language exams. General English classes are recommended for students who do not have a specific goal (e.g. business language, test) but want to improve naturally in everything.

Can I move my language level up with an intensive course?

This intensive English course will help you improve your language confidence, expand your vocabulary, correct grammar mistakes and improve your conversational fluency. However, moving up a whole language level (e.g. from B1 to B2) requires a long-term and systematic learning process. Each level represents tens or hundreds of lessons, which are not enough to “fast-track” through in a few weeks.

What are the advantages of a face-to-face course?

The face-to-face courses have the advantage of direct personal contact with the lecturer. In group courses you also have better interaction with your classmates, e.g. in role-plays and other activities. Since the classes take place in a classroom and not at home or work, there are fewer distractions.

The school year starts in September and ends in June. School year is divided into 2 semesters, winter semester /September-January/ and summer semester /February-June/.

How long does an individual course take?

The duration of the course is set individually, the student prepays the number of hours, there are 3 types of packages on offer. The basic package is 15 x 60 min. lessons.

What is the price for individual lessons?

The price for one-to-one tuition is 46€/60 min. for general English and 55€/60 min. for specialized English.

What are the advantages of an individual course?

We will tailor an individual course for you. You can focus on very specific goals, such as improving your presentation skills, learning coaching techniques or expanding your vocabulary in your field. The teacher gives you 100% of his/her time and attention.

When do the group courses start?

The school year starts in September and ends in June. The school year is divided into 2 semesters, the winter semester /September-January/ and the summer semester /February-June/.

Can I join the course after the semester starts?

You can also join the course during the semester, the price for the course will be calculated as an aliquot amount.

What is the price for a group course?

The price for a group lesson is 12-13€/60 min. hour.

What are the advantages of a group course?

In our language school we offer courses with smaller groups, that is, a maximum of 8 people. Each participant has the opportunity to actively participate in the lesson. A great benefit is the interaction with other students as well as the opportunity to simulate real-life situations. At the same time, the group motivates the members to persevere and learn, so the feedback comes not only from the lecturer. Last but not least, group courses are also more affordable.

I have chosen a language course for my child according to age, is that OK?

We select language courses for children according to their age and level of English. We test children up to 12 years old with the online CLIL tests and children from 13 years old with the online Tracktest.

We have no experience with online courses for children, how is the teaching going?

We have several years of experience with children’s group tuition. The online lessons are set up to be interesting for the children and keep their attention for the whole lesson. Children join the class via video call /e.g. Zoom or MS Teams/. During the lesson, teachers use various online tools – interactive exercises, videos, online whiteboard or shared screen.

How long does it take to learn in children's group courses?

The school year runs from September to June. It is divided into 3 trimesters or 2 semesters.

What is the price for a children's group course?

The price for group lessons in children’s courses is 10-11€/60 min. hour.

Our classes are fun, we are not bored and it’s not like at school. We talk, we play, we even draw sometimes, and that’s how we learn.

FAQ

I have no experience with online teaching, how the teaching is done

Online teaching is done via video chat (e.g. Zoom or MS Teams), where students connect in real time and interact with the instructor in the same way as in a regular class. The tutor explains the material, asks questions, corrects mistakes and leads the conversation. During the lesson, the lecturer uses a variety of online tools – interactive exercises, videos, online whiteboard, shared screen, chat or links to supplementary materials. In General English courses we also send physical materials/textbooks.

What are the benefits of online learning?

Online classes take place in a virtual classroom with a tutor and in real time, but the student does not have to commute to the course location, saving time. He or she can join the class from anywhere – even if he or she is currently traveling or away from home.

How long will it take me to level up?

Progression to a higher level is individual, but the standard path for a student is one language level per school year /2 semesters/ in group lessons, i.e. 64 x 60 min. lessons.

Why is it necessary to test yourself?

Based on your test result, we can place you in a course according to your current level. The test is a prerequisite for inclusion in group instruction.

I'm a complete beginner, do I need to take a test?

If you are a complete beginner and have no background in English, there is no need to take the test. You will be automatically enrolled in the course at level A1.

Can you assign me a native speaker for my lessons?

For levels higher than B1+ we automatically assign a foreign tutor, for lower levels it is individual.

How does clock recall work?

If necessary, the lesson can be cancelled no later than 12.00. the previous working day. All the rules for the organisation of the lessons are given to the students at the beginning of the course.

Can students studying in a group substitute an individual lesson?

No Absences in group instruction cannot be made up individually. A refund of the lesson is only possible if the lesson is cancelled by the whole group.

Our coaching tradition dates back to 2019, when we at The Bridge started actively using coaching to educate our team of trainers. This initiative made a lot of sense to us and delivered exceptional results, so much so that we won a Learning and Development Award for our training programme.
We have linked English with other skills and, thanks to our collaboration with British coach and mentor Mike Shreev, we have expanded our portfolio to include an EMCC accredited one-year Mentoring & Coaching Practitioner programme.

Is previous coaching experience necessary?

Previous experience is not a necessity, as we see coaching as a tool that also helps us to better understand ourselves and others, improves communication and opens the door to effective collaboration.

What is the minimum level of English required for the courses?

A minimum of B2 level is required to be able to actively communicate and work with coaching techniques in English.
