This one-week intensive course for teachers provides a comprehensive look at the complex balance of ecosystems, the impact of human activities, and the urgency of conserving natural resources. It is suitable for all teachers who have at least a B1 level of English and wish to incorporate ecological topics into their subject teaching so that their students understand how they can influence the environment and the future of the planet through their actions.
The content of the one-week intensive Green Skills course is designed to give teachers the knowledge and tools to integrate the concept into the teaching of different subjects. This can be science, geography, biology, but also mathematics or foreign languages. The course will teach you innovative and interactive teaching methodologies to engage your students in exploring sustainability in enjoyable ways; for example through project activities, case studies, and other real-world examples. You'll get educational materials, digital tools and information resources so you can seamlessly integrate green topics into your subject teaching.
Topics include current global energy issues such as renewable energy conservation, analysis of emitters, carbon footprints, and more. What is biodiversity and why is it important, how the interconnected processes in the biodiversity system work, and what are food chains? What is the role of the world's ocean, what is threatening it in the context of climate change, and the damage of industrial fishing. How important soil is, why it is vulnerable, when is it healthy and when not, and what the food waste situation looks like. Why we depend on water, what causes water scarcity, what is meant by direct and indirect water consumption, and how to save water.
We hope that the course will inspire participants to become sustainability advocates themselves in their schools, to promote green practices, and to lead by example. After our course, they will be equipped for this mission with the latest information, acquired skills such as critical thinking or the ability to look holistically at the dynamics of human impact on the ecosystem. The course reflects current trends in learning green skills from across Europe and offers a truly global perspective on the subject.
At the end of the course you will receive the Certificate of Attendance and Europass Mobility document, or any other document your organisation/school requires to submit for applying Erasmus+ programme.
The course is intended for all teachers who deal with the environment and ecology in their subjects, or for English teachers who want to convey environmental topics to their pupils through a foreign language. As the materials are in English, participants must have a minimum B1 level.
