Zuzana Vogelová: Enjoy magical moments

On the occasion of our Teachers’ Day 2025, we asked Zuzana Vogelová, one of the speakers, a few questions. Read her answers below.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and your expertise?

I have been teaching English as a second language for 23 years so far in Primary and Lower secondary schools. My expertise is dyslexia and SEN learners.

What are you going to talk about at the conference? How do you think the audience will benefit from your insights?

I´m ready to talk about dyslexia from my point of view as a dyslexic person. From the view of me as a dyslexic teacher and as a dyslexic mother.  I will share with you my world that might look like a different planet to you. You won´t forget about me.  I will help you with strategies that you might try with your students. I will show you how students cope with this  gift or a curse.

Do you recall any particular experience or aha-moment that you have had recently in terms of teaching or learning?

A child that was very unsuccessful in English got 1 from a very difficult test. I talked to her and she said: ´´ I worked hard Mrs. teacher.´´ Aha moments come daily.

What are you working on/learning at the moment?

Right now I´m working on a research around disrespectful pupils in schools. It is difficult to talk about it and say the truth about it.

If you were supposed to give only a single piece of advice to fresh graduates who start their teaching path, what would it be?

Congratulation. You got the best job in the world.  You are a magician. Enjoy your magical moments with your students. Please stay forever young.

Thank you.
