Liam Anderson: Enjoy the moment

On the occasion of our Teachers’ Day 2025, we asked Liam Anderson, one of the speakers, a few questions. Read his answers below.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and your expertise?

I have been involved in the ELT landscape since 2014, teaching everyone from curious young learners to ambitious university students. Holding a CELTA, PGCE in Language and Literacy, and an MA in Educational Technology, my mission is to transform teacher training with fresh ideas and practical solutions that make a real difference in the classroom. As the ELT Manager for the UK and Ireland at Express Publishing, I hope to bring energy, expertise, and a passion for raising teaching standards.

What are you going to talk about at the conference? How do you think the audience will benefit from your insights?

Language teachers around the world are feeling an immense pressure to incorporate AI into their practice, and endless amounts of digital tools into the classroom … but which ones? How do we know which tools are effective? Where do I start? It can be completely overwhelming! In my workshop, we will explore techniques to help identify which tools are the right choice for you and your students, and how you can make the most out of them. Takeaway these tools to share with your colleagues, and reduce the stress of choosing and using technology!

What are you working on/learning at the moment?

Whilst completing my Masters programme in Education Technology, I am focusing on improving in-service training and professional development of teachers through the use of technology – that may be through webinars, blended learning courses, or navigating technology, just like my workshop.

A real area of passion of mine is action research: teachers taking ownership of their own developments and exploration of new techniques, tools, and materials in their own classroom with real students! This is a topic I would like to work closer with schools in implementing.

If you were supposed to give only a single piece of advice to fresh graduates who start their teaching path, what would it be?

Enjoy the moment!

Teaching is one of the most rewarding careers out there, and students will remember you long after your classes together. Be in that moment with them. Make it a positive experience. Remember why you wanted to be a teacher, and remember how your teachers in school made you feel.

Explore different ways of teaching, and always put the students first, but have a blast whilst doing it!

Thank you.
